Glossary of Key Terms:
Human Exceptionalism: The philosophical belief that humans hold a unique and superior position in the natural world, often due to their capacity for rationality, morality, and complex societal structures.
Moral Worth/Value: The inherent value assigned to a being that dictates its ethical treatment and rights.
Animal Rights: The belief that non-human animals deserve moral consideration and legal protections similar to those granted to humans.
Ethical Consistency: Maintaining the same moral principles and applying them uniformly across different situations and to different beings.
Stewardship: The responsibility humans have to care for and manage the natural world, including animals, responsibly.
Reductio ad Absurdum: A form of argument that disproves a statement by showing that it leads to ridiculous or impossible conclusions.
Dominion: In a theological context, the authority and power granted to humans over nature, often interpreted as a responsibility for ethical care.
Rationality: The ability to reason, think logically, and make judgments based on evidence and understanding.
Moral Agency: The capacity to make moral judgments, understand right and wrong, and be held accountable for one's actions.
